{Singing with the Saints} October Hymn Study: “O Queen of the Holy Rosary”

This month we are learning a Marian hymn with a more recent text but older tune. "O Queen of the Holy Rosary" was written by Emily Shapcote in 1905 and uses the 1780's german hymn tune Ellacombe.

"O Queen of the Holy Rosary" was chosen for this month's study because it ties in October's dedication of the Holy Rosary and the feasts of both Our Lady of the Rosary celebrated on October 7th and Our Lady of Fatima's Miracle of the Sun from October 13th, 1917. It can also be relatable to St. Dominic, the saint to whom Our Lady gave the rosary, who is commemorated in August on 8th in the New calendar and the 4th in the Traditional calendar.

Since this hymn only has 3 verses, for Week 2, the week of October 13th, we will be reviewing the Fatima centennial hymn, "Teacher of the Announcement." And for the fifth week of October we will revisit the first verse of "For All the Saints" before the Feast of All Hallows.

All your family has to do to learn this hymn is sing along with me!
